[01]The Brief
Less coordination.More anticipation.
Vacation planning frequently devolves into spreadsheet fatigue. Scattered links across WhatsApp, flight alerts, and booking tabs make it almost impossible to see the trip as a coherent story.
ROVE bridges the gap between daydreaming and execution: giving travel companions a unified surface where accommodation, activities, and budget are continuously kept in sync.
Independent, together.
Travelers planning a short trip with a companion, balancing individual preferences with shared dates, realistic pacing, and transparent costs.
The details live everywhere.
Accommodation comparisons, saved places, and itinerary notes can become disconnected across tabs and messages. ROVE brings the decisions into one workspace.
Make the next decision clear.
Help travelers compare fairly, shape an unhurried day, understand true costs, and recover gracefully from availability changes while preserving the trip.
02 / Strategic Direction
Freedom, supportedby structure.
The product gives travelers a useful framework without filling every hour for them. We deliberately design for open space, leaving room for arrival, wandering, and spontaneous discoveries.
Show the real comparison.
Display the full-date total for selected dates alongside the nightly price, cleaning fees, and cancellation terms before adding anything to the plan.
Preserve the good parts.
Treat an unavailable stay as a localized change. Keep the overall route, other nights, and planned activities completely intact.
Separate planning from booking.
A saved itinerary is a decision artifact. Reservation status remains visibly independent, allowing friends to align before charging cards.
03 / Questions Before Assumptions
What would we need to learn?
Follow a real planning session
Ask travelers to walk through their latest trip using the tools and group messages they actually used. Look for where context fell through the cracks.
Understand decision criteria
Explore which factors truly shift a stay choice: total stay cost, cancellation policy, neighborhood walkability, or transit proximity.
Study the moment plans break
Use a changed-availability task to test whether travelers immediately understand what changed, what stayed the same, and the exact cost difference.
[04]The Journey
One connecteddecision at a time.
From initial destination inspiration to live travel day transit, each step answers one explicit question while building upon the previous context.
Choose the route
Route, dates and travelers define the foundational planning context.
Select a stay
Full-date totals and cancellation terms support an honest comparison.
Build the day
Add an activity or preserve flexible time within the planned allowance.
Replace one item
Show the price delta clearly while preserving unaffected itinerary details.
Review together
A shared companion note and accepted change clarify the collaborative decision.
Keep the plan
A saved trip remains an editable artifact, separate from reservations and payments.
[05]Wireframe Decision
Keep sequence, detailand context together.
A map-first layout can easily obscure the itinerary timeline. ROVE uses a 3-column mental model where days, decisions, and overall budget work in harmony.

[06]Discovery
Inspiration with auseful next step.
Destination imagery creates initial wanderlust. Dates, traveler count, and trip length establish a concrete context before accommodation comparison even begins.

[07]Accommodation Comparison
A nightly rate is onlypart of the story.
Nightly rates hide taxes, fees, and cancellation differences. ROVE computes the real total for the entire duration upfront, so travelers compare apples to apples.

Compare the full stay
Each option shows the selected-date total and its nightly equivalent together, removing hidden fee surprises.
Keep cancellation visible
A cheaper non-refundable stay remains visibly distinct from a flexible booking with free cancellation.
Keep the same basis
Dates, traveler counts, and currency stay pinned at the top while evaluating alternative properties.
08 / The Core Experience
A plan you can readat a glance.
Day sequence, event details, route context, and a visible trip estimate work as one unified planning surface.

A legible rhythm
Days and destinations stay visible on the left while the selected day expands in the central workspace.
Leave room for the trip
An open afternoon is a deliberate planning state with no pressure to over-program every hour.
Keep status explicit
A stay can be saved to the plan while remaining unbooked. Cost tracking and payment status are kept independent.
[09]Shaping A Day
Add an experience, not a second cost.
The day-two interaction allocates an existing €90 activity allowance. Adding the ceramics workshop uses the planned allowance and keeps the total estimate steady at €958.

[10]Recovery By Design
Change one stay.Keep the journey.
When an original accommodation becomes unavailable, traditional tools force you to restart your search from scratch. ROVE preserves the context and shows the exact difference before accepting a replacement.
+€42 to the trip · +€21 per person · No other item removed.
Recovery path: Availability conflict → Alternative with explicit terms → Accepted replacement → Revised itinerary
Unavailable · choose a replacement
€458 per person · Porto stay & activities preserved
Replacement saved to plan · not booked
€479 per person · Only +€21 difference
[11]Collaboration
Make the decisionvisible to both travelers.
The original and replacement stays appear together with the cost difference. A companion note from Jules Davis gives the shared decision a clear place in the plan.

[12]On The Move
The next useful detail, when the screen gets smaller.
While traveling, context shifts. The mobile companion prioritizes immediate transit reminders: train departure times, platform information, and the next check-in location.

[13]Design System & Accessibility
Warm character. Clear controls.
Semantic color tokens, accessible contrast pairings, and generous 48px touch targets allow the interface to feel warm and editorial while meeting strict usability benchmarks.

A system that adapts
Responsive auto layout and semantic component tokens ensure trip cards remain readable from desktop to phone screens.
